Tisbury Starstone Freeform Cabochon | 5.8cm | UK

A truly unique piece of British natural history — Tisbury Starstone is a fossilised coral found exclusively in the ancient soils of Tisbury, Wiltshire, formed approximately 145 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period when this part of England lay beneath a warm, shallow sea. The characteristic star-like patterns visible on the surface are the preserved skeletal structures of coral polyps, their intricate geometry locked in stone over millions of years of gradual mineralisation. Tisbury Starstone is a fossilised coral composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), formed through the slow replacement of organic coral material with crystalline mineral structure over geological time. The earthy tones and subtle pinks of the matrix reflect the mineralised limestone host rock, while the white star patterns are the preserved coral structures themselves. Hardness 3–4 Mohs. Handle with care — fossilised coral is fragile and should not be dropped or knocked against harder surfaces.

This compact chlorite in quartz cluster from Pakistan pairs shadowy green crystal faces with a pale, rugged base.

Several translucent quartz points rise together, their clear edges cutting through darker green chlorite. A small glassy crystal juts across the front, while the back reveals a granular olive-green patch against chalky white stone. Turn it in the light and the points shift between misty grey and deeper green, with a crisp glint along their edges.
