Grossular Garnet is a calcium aluminium silicate belonging to the Garnet group. It forms under metamorphic conditions, most commonly within limestone rich environments, where heat and pressure allow garnet crystals to develop. A naturally terminated Blue Cap Tourmaline crystal from Brazil — a single crystal exhibiting two distinct colour zones in one unbroken form.

The crystal is predominantly deep forest green with strong vertical striations running the length of the prism faces — characteristic of tourmaline's trigonal growth. The terminal cap shifts to a cool blue-grey, clearly distinct from the green body and visible from all angles. Pietersite is a brecciated aggregate of hawk’s eye (blue crocidolite) and tiger’s eye (golden crocidolite pseudomorphed by quartz), bound together in a chalcedony matrix. First described in 1962 by Sid Pieters, it is sourced from Namibia.
