Barite on Malachite | 66mm | Shangulowe Mine, DR Congo

From the Shangulowe Mine in Kambove, one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s most celebrated copper belt localities — a source renowned for producing some of the finest malachite specimens in the world.

The front face is densely covered in vivid emerald-green botryoidal malachite — tightly packed orbs with characteristic concentric banding visible at the centres, ranging from deep forest green to bright translucent teal at the edges. Interspersed throughout are colourless to white barite crystals, their glassy tabular faces catching the light against the matte-velvet malachite surface. The reverse shows the raw underside of the specimen: banded malachite in sweeping teal and green layers, with a more earthy, unpolished character. Presented on an acrylic museum-style display stand.

A heart chakra stone of considerable presence, malachite is associated with transformation, protection, and emotional clarity — drawing out what no longer serves and amplifying the capacity for change. A rare celadonite mineral specimen from India — a phyllosilicate seldom seen in this form, with a densely clustered, almost coral-like habit that sets it apart from more familiar green minerals.

The surface is entirely covered in tightly packed, blocky micro-crystals in a muted sage-green to grey-green palette, dusted with a fine earthy coating that softens the overall tone. Where the matrix is exposed at the base, warm ochre-brown tones contrast against the cooler green. The form is irregular and organic — somewhere between a cauliflower and a mineral rosette — with occasional brighter green patches where fresher crystal faces catch the light. Solid and weighty for its size.
