Grape Agate is a botryoidal variety of Chalcedony formed from microcrystalline Quartz, characterised by clusters of small rounded formations resembling grapes. Typically found in soft purple to lavender tones, it develops through slow silica rich mineral deposition within volcanic cavities. The smooth spherical growth reflects steady crystal formation over time. A spectacular large Grape Agate specimen smothered in thousands of vivid purple botryoidal orbs, straight from the volcanic highlands of Indonesia.
An exceptional 2.567kg Grape Agate specimen from Indonesia, measuring approximately 20.5x17x8.5cm, and one of the most visually arresting mineral specimens you will find. Thousands of tightly packed botryoidal orbs in vivid violet purple cascade across every surface, varying in size from tiny pin-point spheres to larger clustered formations, creating an extraordinary three-dimensional texture that is completely unlike any other mineral. The reverse reveals the natural dark matrix and teal green secondary mineral coatings from which the Grape Agate has grown, adding wonderful geological depth to the piece. Grape Agate is a purple botryoidal Chalcedony, a microcrystalline variety of Quartz, found exclusively in the Mamuju region of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its distinctive grape-like formations develop as silica-rich hydrothermal fluids slowly deposit layer upon layer of Chalcedony within volcanic rock cavities, with each tiny orb growing outward from a central point over millions of years.
