Its vivid magenta to purple-red coloration is produced by chromium substituting for aluminium within the layered silicate structure — the same element responsible for the red of Ruby and the green of Emerald, producing an entirely different colour here due to the distinct crystal chemistry of the Chlorite host. Kämmererite forms through hydrothermal processes, where chromium-bearing fluids interact with ultramafic host rocks under low to moderate temperature conditions.
