Mahogany Obsidian is a variety of volcanic glass (SiO₂) distinguished by its deep red-brown and black patterning, caused by inclusions of iron oxide, magnetite, and haematite within the silica matrix. Like all obsidian, it forms when lava cools rapidly, preventing crystal formation. With a Mohs hardness of 5–5.5 and an amorphous structure, it has a characteristic conchoidal fracture.
