A substantial dravite crystal from the renowned May Downs Station locality near Mt Isa, Queensland — one of Australia's most celebrated tourmaline-producing regions.

The piece is a deep, opaque brown with a striking metallic sheen across the primary prism faces, where the surface catches light with an almost graphitic lustre. Charoite is one of the rarest minerals on Earth, found in only one location: the Murun massif in Siberia, Russia, along the Chara River from which it takes its name. It is a complex potassium calcium sodium silicate that forms through the metamorphism of limestone by alkaline igneous intrusions, a geologically unusual process that produces its characteristic swirling fibrous structure. The violet colour, which ranges from pale lavender to deep purple, is intrinsic to the mineral itself. Dark inclusions of Aegirine and golden-orange Tinaksite are common and add to the visual complexity of each piece.
