Mangano Calcite, also known as Pink Calcite or Manganoan Calcite, is a beautiful pink-coloured crystal with the unique property of being highly UV Reactive! This is due to a small amount of Manganese present in the mineral which acts as an activator and causes the Calcite to fluoresce pink/red/orange. The brilliance of the fluorescence varies with the amount of Manganese. Mangano Calcite was first discovered in the mid-19th century in the region of Pribram, Czech Republic, and has since been found in various other locations including Peru, Romania, Mexico and the United States. Mangano Calcite forms through the precipitation of calcium carbonate in sedimentary environments. It often occurs as stalactites, scalenohedral crystals or in massive form.
