Selenite is a variety of gypsum (CaSO₄·2H₂O), formed through the evaporation of ancient saltwater bodies. Its name derives from the Greek ‘selēnē’, meaning moon.

Malachite Spheres | 2–2.5cm | Congo

High quality polished Malachite spheres from Congo, each displaying the bold concentric banding and rich emerald green that this mineral is celebrated for.

Each sphere is intuitively chosen for you. Sizes range from approximately 2cm to 2.5cm — please see the photos for a sense of the variation. The banding patterns on each piece are entirely unique, formed by the natural growth of Malachite stalactites, which when cut and polished reveal their characteristic rings and flowing stripes. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral that forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zones of copper deposits, where copper-rich groundwater reacts slowly with surrounding rock over thousands of years. The stalactitic growth habit — the same process that forms cave stalactites — produces the concentric rings and eye patterns that make Malachite so visually distinctive. Congolese Malachite is among the finest in the world, known for its deep, saturated green and well-defined banding.

A truly unique piece of British natural history — Tisbury Starstone is a fossilised coral found exclusively in the ancient soils of Tisbury, Wiltshire, formed approximately 145 million years ago during the Late Jurassic period when this part of England lay beneath a warm, shallow sea. The characteristic star-like patterns visible on the surface are the preserved skeletal structures of coral polyps, their intricate geometry locked in stone over millions of years of gradual mineralisation. Tisbury Starstone is a fossilised coral composed of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), formed through the slow replacement of organic coral material with crystalline mineral structure over geological time. The earthy tones and subtle pinks of the matrix reflect the mineralised limestone host rock, while the white star patterns are the preserved coral structures themselves. Hardness 3–4 Mohs. Handle with care — fossilised coral is fragile and should not be dropped or knocked against harder surfaces.

A genuine moldavite tektite from the Czech Republic — one of the rarest and most sought-after minerals on Earth, formed not from the ground beneath us, but from the skies above.

This roundish piece has a beautifully even, tactile form with rich surface texture all the way around — the deeply etched, wrinkled character that moldavite is so prized for. The characteristic forest-green colour shows well, and the all-round texture makes it a particularly satisfying piece to hold. Each moldavite is entirely unique in shape and surface detail.

Moldavite, also called Vltavín, is a tektite — “terrestrial debris” formed approximately 15 million years ago when a meteorite struck the Nördlinger Ries Crater in what is now southern Germany. The impact scattered molten silica across a wide area, which cooled rapidly in flight and landed across Bohemia and Moravia. Its formula (SiO₂ + Al₂O₃), amorphous crystal system, and Mohs hardness of 5.5–7 set it apart from any earthly mineral.

A rare bi-colour tourmaline from Brazil, displaying distinct pink terminations at both ends with a deep forest-green body running through the centre — the green is most visible along the upper edge where the crystal thins and light passes through more cleanly.

The crystal is elongated with strong vertical striations along the green body, characteristic of tourmaline's prismatic growth. The pink zones at each terminus shift from translucent rose to a deeper magenta-pink depending on the angle, with a natural matrix attachment at one end. The contrast between the opaque green core and the glowing pink caps is striking in natural light.

A particularly interesting Tisbury Starstone cabochon from Wiltshire, UK, and one that rewards close looking. The shape is a tapering rectangle — one edge wider than the other — and the piece has been carved at a slight angle through the coral structure, which means the surface reveals both the classic circular star patterns and the fine feathering effect of the coral's radiating internal structure simultaneously. It is the kind of cut that only happens when the carver works with the stone rather than against it, and the result is a piece with more visual depth than a straightforward face-on cut would produce.
