An exceptionally rare type locality specimen of Pottsite from the only known source of this mineral on earth.
A remarkable and genuinely rare 50.73g Pottsite specimen measuring approximately 4x3.3x2.7cm, from the Linka Mine in Lander County, Nevada, USA, the type locality for this mineral and the only location in the world where Pottsite has ever been found. The display face is covered in a vivid canary yellow powdery coating of Pottsite, one of the most visually striking secondary mineral formations you will encounter, standing out brilliantly against the dark grey host rock. Patches of the yellow coating transition across the surface alongside the natural matrix, with traces visible on the reverse edges too. Pottsite is an extremely rare lead vanadium vanadate hydroxide mineral, classified as a secondary oxidation product that forms in the oxidised zones of lead-bearing ore deposits. Its extraordinary bright yellow colouring comes from the vanadium content within its chemical structure, and its occurrence is so restricted that type locality specimens from the Linka Mine are considered significant finds among serious mineral collectors worldwide.
