Fuchsite is a chromium-rich variety of Muscovite Mica, and it is the chromium that gives it the characteristic deep green — the same element responsible for the green of Emerald and Uvarovite Garnet. It forms within metamorphic rocks, particularly schists, where mica minerals develop their characteristic platy, slightly sparkly structure under heat and pressure. The red Hematite inclusions form separately within the same rock, and pieces that contain both mineral they are particularly sought after for the visual contrast they offer.
