    Amethyst SphereThe most popular crystal on the planet is the gorgeous calming purple Amethyst. The name Amethyst derives from the ancient Greek word amethystos meaning ‘intoxicated’. The ancient Greeks wore Amethyst and used carved Amethyst cups as they believed it would prevent intoxication. Medieval European soldiers wore Amethyst in battle to keep them level-headed as well as to aid healing. Amethyst is a type of Quartz, with its colour coming from radiation in the ground triggering iron impurities and, in some cases, other transition metals. The current largest Amethyst deposits are in Brazil, but they can also be found in the USA, Canada, Austria, Bulgaria, India, South Korea, Africa and Russia.
