A rare and well-provenanced phosphate mineral specimen from one of South Dakota's most celebrated pegmatite localities, sourced from an old private collection.
A fascinating 60.7g Hureaulite with Rockbridgeite specimen measuring approximately 69x36x24mm, from the Bull Moose Mine in Custer, South Dakota, sourced from an old private mineral collection. This piece displays the characteristic dark blue-black Rockbridgeite matrix, heavily textured and rich with mineral complexity, with patches of warm orange-pink secondary mineralisation and white crystalline material visible across multiple faces. Hureaulite is a manganese phosphate hydrate mineral that forms in the oxidised zones of granitic pegmatites, while Rockbridgeite is an iron phosphate mineral that frequently occurs alongside it in the same pegmatite environments. The Bull Moose Mine in Custer County is one of South Dakota's most well-regarded mineral localities, known for producing exceptional phosphate mineral specimens of collector quality.
