The Seven Chakras Guide

Chakra Crystal Set 'love'

‘These crystals are great for aligning the Chakras’ is quite a common sentence you hear these days. Ok, most people who are interested in spirituality, sort of know what this means. But what does it actually mean, what are the Chakras, what do they do and where does this belief come from?

Chakra is a Sanskrit (classical language of Indian and liturgical language of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism) word for ‘wheel’ or ‘circle’. The Chakra system is a spiritual and complex energy network in your body which is connected by the seven main Chakras, - ‘the wheels of energy’. The seven main wheels run along the spine and are directly connected to your mind, body, and emotional wellbeing.

This is a complex and not at all straightforward subject either, as various Eastern cultures still have their own understanding of Chakras. When practising crystal healing, we work on the basis of the classic seven Chakra system in which we go into with our own meditation practises as well. By the end of this basic guide, you will know exactly what the chakras are and even be able to explain it to someone else yourself!

What is the history of the Chakras?

Wall art dating back between 5000 and 3500BC, provides evidence of ancient Indian cultures that practised mediation. In the Vedas, Indian sacred texts, we also find the first written evidence describing meditation, dated from 1500 BCE. The Vedas also have the oldest text reference about the term Chakra, not precisely meaning the energy centres but referring to when the king ‘turns the wheel of his empire’ representing his power and influence.

The exact date when the term Chakra came into existence with the same meaning as we know it today, isn’t known precisely. But around 200BCE the Upanishads mentioned Chakras and Mantras in tantric concepts.  And in the 10th century, Guru Goraknath started to teach about the powers and energies of meditating on the Chakras. The various Eastern cultures often differ in their beliefs and the meaning of Chakras and even disagree on how many Chakras there are in general.

The New Age understanding of Chakras in the western world come about roughly in the 1970s. Writer Christopher Hills published a book called ‘Nuclear Evolution’ which created an association between the Chakras and certain colours that is still used to this day. He also linked Chakras to personality types, and this is still an analysis used in the New Age movement.

In modern days, many people have heard about Chakras and believe in the existence of them. But just believing isn’t enough. For those who meditate on the Chakra system it has a true effect on their physical and mental wellbeing.

At Tali & Loz we are true believers of the Chakras and we curated crystal sets which we believe help to guide specific energy through the Chakras. Our ‘Detox Chakra set’, will introduce crystal vibrations that will help you with detoxing and protect you from negative energy around you.

What does ‘energy’ mean in terms of the Chakras?

To make it more complex, when we talk about energy in the spiritual world, we could mean a variety of things! But mostly we talk about the ‘force of life’ which usually means being more conscious and mindful of your being and body.

Meditation is a great way to practise balancing your energies. Learning how to meditate means focusing on learning how to manipulate the flows of energy going through your Chakras. It is also proven to be a fantastic way to feel happier, control your thoughts and emotions better and think more clearly. Meditation has many forms such as the ‘classic’ sitting meditation, but yoga is also a form of meditation. It is all about being conscious of your body, breath, and mind.

You have probably often heard the words “blocked Chakras” or a “blockage in your Chakras”. What this means is that often when you hold onto feelings such as anger, sadness or frustration, the energy flow in your body gets disrupted and gets ‘stuck’ in or around a Chakra area.

This could cause a variety of mental and physical unease. By meditating and receiving a Reiki practise especially, you could learn how to unblock this. Once the right flow of energy is streaming through your body it will feel like a huge relief.

The Main Chakras, their properties, and corresponding crystals.

Each Chakra has its own vibration, its own energy. There are a lot of external factors that could influence that vibration such as a crystal, but also meditation, Reiki, sound, and light.

Let’s go over and explain the seven Chakras and their energies. We will work from below, starting with the Root Chakra upwards to the Crown Chakra.

Summing up

There is a huge amount of energy in our seven Chakras and this energy can be accessed through meditation and the use of crystals. If a Chakra is imbalanced or blocked, you could experience physical and mental unease.

We have curated crystal collections for you according to each Chakra, please click here to see them.

We also have our Chakra meditation or decoration tools as well!

You could use these in a variety of ways, such as holding or placing them on the relevant Chakra. This helps to visualise and concentrate better on the area. We love using them when we practise Yoga as well It is easy to get distracted and not focus on a Chakra, which is why it helps to have a visual tool in front of you to keep that focus strong.

We wish you great practise and let us know, how do you access the energy flows going through your Chakras?
