Dioptase is a rare copper cyclosilicate mineral forming as a secondary oxidation product in the weathered zones of copper ore deposits, its extraordinary intense blue-green colour one of the most vivid of any mineral in the natural world.

A substantial and beautifully polished Serpentine freeform from Madagascar — sold locally under the trade name Green Opal — with a colour that is immediately arresting: a vivid, almost luminous lime-green with a fine granular texture that gives the surface a soft, organic quality.

The dominant face is a clean, bright yellow-green, while the reverse reveals a large warm amber-orange inclusion — a natural iron oxide staining within the serpentine matrix — that contrasts beautifully against the green.
