Hypersthene is a member of the Pyroxene mineral family, forming within igneous and metamorphic rocks as magnesium and iron-rich silicate minerals crystallise under high temperature and pressure conditions. Its name comes from the Greek for above strength, a reference to its hardness relative to Hornblende, the mineral it was originally compared to. The schiller effect — the soft, moving shimmer visible when light catches the surface — is caused by light reflecting from thin parallel layers of mineral inclusions within the crystal structure, similar to the effect seen in Labradorite and Moonstone. It is one of those stones that rewards slow handling: the shimmer only reveals itself as the piece moves.

This 910g freeform (117x92x50mm) originates from Madagascar, one of the finest sources of Amazonite worldwide. The stone's characteristic blue-green colour comes from trace amounts of lead and water within its feldspar structure, with natural white Quartz veining running through the matrix adding contrast and depth. Each freeform is shaped to follow the natural contours of the stone rather than a fixed geometric form.

Citrine with Phantoms & Lodalite Quartz Tower | 115mm | Brazil

A self-standing Brazilian citrine tower with exceptional internal complexity — phantom formations, lodalite (garden quartz) inclusions, and a natural quartz point penetrating upward from the base.

The body moves from a deep amber-honey base through warm golden-ochre zones, clearing toward a near-transparent apex. Lodalite inclusions create layered, landscape-like scenes within the stone — rust-red mineral deposits, cloudy white pockets, and fine particulate matter suspended in the quartz matrix. A secondary quartz point grows upward from the lower interior, visible through the polished faces. The base face shows a natural, unpolished window of pale quartz where the tower meets the stand.

The piece is deep, opaque brown with strong vertical striations running the full length of the prism faces and a naturally stepped termination at the top. The reverse shows a more complex, etched surface with pale white matrix threading through the cleavage — a contrast that highlights the crystal's natural growth history. The base is raw and unworked. At 3.2 × 2.9 × 1.7cm it stands confidently upright on its included acrylic display stand, secured with a small amount of white tack that is easily removed.

A verdelite tourmaline crystal from Brazil — the green variety of tourmaline, valued for its rich colour and natural prismatic form.

A blocky, well-formed column with a distinctly olive-green sheen across the termination face — warm and earthy in ambient light, deepening to a richer forest green under direct illumination. The torch shot reveals the interior is translucent and saturated with colour throughout. Strong vertical striations run the length of the crystal, and the naturally irregular termination is unworked and entirely natural.
