The front face reads dark at first — a dense, near-black brown mass with the characteristic adamantine sheen of iron-rich sphalerite. Hold it to the light and the surface opens up: patches of translucent amber push through the dark exterior, glowing from within and hinting at the warmth concealed inside. Dieses 1,1 kg schwere Exemplar (125x75mm) stammt aus den Madani-Minen in Afghanistan, wo Lapislazuli seit über 6.000 Jahren aktiv abgebaut wird. Die polierte Eiform zeigt das charakteristische tiefe Blau des Steins in seiner vollen Pracht, unterbrochen von schimmernden goldenen Pyritflecken und hellen Calcitadern, die sich durch die Matrix ziehen. Lapislazuli bildet sich durch die Metamorphose von Kalkstein, wobei Lazurit zusammen mit Calcit und Pyrit unter intensiver Hitze und Druck tief in der Erde entsteht.
