Vanadinit: Kleine Kristalle, außergewöhnliches Gewicht

Vanadinit sieht aus wie eine Ansammlung zarter roter Kristalle. Hebt man ihn auf, ist er bleischwer, denn er ist es im Wesentlichen auch: Fünf Bleiatome pro Formeleinheit verleihen ihm ein spezifisches Gewicht von fast sieben, fast dreimal so viel wie bei gewöhnlichem Quarz. Die leuchtend rote Farbe ist kein Spurenelementeffekt, sondern intrinsisch zur Vanadatgruppe, die das Mineral definiert, was bedeutet, dass Vanadinit immer rot ist.
